The ambiance at 189 on the upper level will recreate the sensation of the last hours of the day; the moment when one winds down to relax. The experience will be as nutritious as the meal itself, whether you are mesmerized by the action in the kitchen, tucked away in a private booth, unwinding at the sunset gradient bar, or breathing easy in the ‘garden’ lounge under the multicolored vegetation frozen in time.

Middle Eastern eateries are frequently associated with dark, richly patterned, and sometimes clichéd design elements. Bavel’s design was created to defy conventional conventions. The restaurant’s design incorporates the influence of the regions from which the cuisine hails, interpreting those themes through the lens of its Arts District (Los Angeles) location.
At Callie (East Village, San Diego), chef Travis Swikard’s first solo enterprise, a timeless appreciation for the warmth of the sun and the soul of the water bridges the old world with the new. The design depicts an adventurous explorer who has come home after traveling abroad in search of information and inspiration for new ventures. A palette of materials and fabrics inspired by a Mediterranean-meets-California palette is combined with modern elements to create an irreverent and lighthearted vibe.
Gem’s diverse style is inspired by the combination of old and contemporary that characterizes Saigon’s urban fabric. The lush and layered streetscape of this old city provides a rich resource for inspiration, brought to life by chef Viet Nguyen’s fascinating anecdotes and his passionate affection for the chaotic beauty found there. Warm and natural materials like hickory, amber glass, and corten are juxtaposed with the industrial influence of board-formed concrete, extended metal mesh, and steel in the material palette.

M. Georgina is Michelin-starred chef Melissa Perello’s third restaurant and her first in Los Angeles. Being tasked with introducing chef Perello to a new audience gave this project a clear focus: how to bring the unassuming yet polished dining experience of her famed San Francisco restaurants, complete with their trademark down-to-earth charm, to her new Southern California site. To achieve this, the design team combined the simplicity, functionality, and comfort of Nordic architecture with the lovable personality of French farmhouse-inspired furnishings and décor.
MessHall is a restaurant that first debuted in 2012 in a building with a long history in Los Angeles. The skyscraper, which was designed by Cecil B. DeMille, was most famous for housing the Los Feliz branch of the Brown Derby restaurant for many years. It was most recently a part of Louise’s empire, which lasted more than 20 years.
The bespoke concrete tiles on the face of the counter wrap around to become the surrounding flooring, providing a splash of color in an otherwise bland dining area. Warm wood tones, imperfect glazed white brick, and a plaster wall filled with genuine family photographs create a warm and friendly ambiance, which is accentuated by huge windows that let in plenty of natural light.
Geometry is relaxed, resulting in an urban sanctuary with social settings near the pool and more isolated spaces to unwind on the perimeter. With the help of dramatic lighting, this relaxing ambiance is transformed into a classy playground when the sunsets. It is an alluring destination for evening cocktails and post-game celebrations that carry into the night.
