John Cena Retains WWE Title in Fatal 4-Way Match at WWE Battleground

Unsurprisingly, John Cena is still your WWE champion. 

The most polarizing star in the business kept his belt at Battleground Sunday night, pinning Kane after he hit Randy Orton with an Attitude Adjustment on top of "The Devil's Favorite Demon."

Of course, there's nothing shocking about the result. With SummerSlam on the horizon, Cena, the company's biggest draw, was expected to win and keep his title. Despite the expected finish, though, it was still a solid main event. 

There were several near falls, impressive spots and lots of action. Moreover, as Robert Littal of BlackSportsOnline.com noted, Roman Reigns looked fantastic in defeat:

In arguably the most memorable moment of the match, Roman Reigns flew around and outside the ring, delivering his apron kick to all three opponents. He then finished it off with a spear of Orton through the barricade to "this is awesome" chants from the crowd. 

That was followed by a bunch of finishing moves and a bunch of pin breaks by the other participants, before Cena finally captured the victory. 

There was speculation that Seth Rollins would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase, but Dean Ambrose took care of that, ambushing his former partner several times and eventually forcing him to flee from the Tampa Bay Times Forum. 

Attention now, of course, turns toward SummerSlam. 

While Cena's win isn't going to be met with a lot of acclaim, it certainly makes sense. Having him face Brock Lesnar at the company's biggest summer PPV has always been the plan. Although there are other options that could work, there is no draw quite like Cena vs. Lesnar. 

Of course, there's also the looming breakup between Kane and The Authority, the presence of Rollins' briefcase and the future of Reigns that will further add to the intrigue. 

It's going to be a compelling four weeks.
