We study the rich cultural and linguistic diversity of the Islamic world
Research on the Muslim world at Utrecht University’s Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies revolves around a number of key areas of the Islamic tradition. We study Islam with an eye to the cultural and linguistic diversity of its historical manifestations. We lay particular emphasis on formative texts and intellectual currents in the theological, legal, mystical, philosophical and literary traditions of Islam in both the pre-modern and modern world.
