A pogrom is an organized massacre of a particular ethnic group.
The word pogrom may not be entirely technically correct because unless all the people of the Jewish faith come from one culture they do not belong to one ethnic group. It is a pogrom if all the Hebrew speaking people of Israel who practice the Jewish faith are seen as one meta culture even though they are multiracial immigrants to Israel from many cultures around the world returning to their Biblical homeland to end their exile in Eden, Paradiso, after passing through Purgatorio, not in the Inferno of Dante’s Divine Comedy.
The above paragraph, however, is unseemly socio-political academic quibbling about a word to describe what was a ghastly and gory display of utter inhumanity.
The slaughter is reminiscent of the anger of Jesus about animal sacrifice, also an Islamic tradition, whether it is kosher or halal, by conducting war on felllow human beings with a knife.
Knives are primitive. Israel like America has missiles, nukes, and iron domes for the incineration of humanity from living tissue into a puff of smoke in a jiffy avoiding the pain and torture of death by murder on live television, preserving psychological distance from the massacre of war conducted by automated drones and clicks of a button on a touch screen as on my iPhone when the suicidal, sadistic, amd masochistic distant destruction of life looks weirdly like a beautiful mushroom cloud in The White House Situation Room.
God in the Old Testament had created Adam and Eve to be vegetarians:
King James Version, Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
If we stop domesticating, cultivating, and sacrificing animals in the industrial production of food, we will also stop doing this to each other on the altar of the God of War and Agriculture, the Roman Mars.
