Installing the Sentry 2

Since I have many computers, the hard part was deciding which case I was going to install the fan controller in. I wanted to install the Sentry 2 in a case which would use as many of the five possible connections, so I decided to use my Helios 910R which has four fans, two intake and two exhaust. Installation of the Sentry 2 is relatively simple. After pulling the front cover off the front of my case, I simply slid the fan controller into an available 5.25 drive bay slot and locked it down with some screws.

Inside the case, I disconnected the power to each fan and plugged the fan cable into the appropriate fan controller power connector. The power cord from the fan controller is nicely labeled and each cable has either a 3 pin connector or a molex connector which is great since I have fans with both types of connectors.

The last thing to install is the temperature probes. The directions recommend installing each probe close to the corresponding fan (i.e. Fan 1 is near Temp probe 1). I did as recommended and installed three of the probes close to the appropriate fans except for the fourth probe.

The fourth probe I installed on my graphics card which allows me to monitor the cards temperature. I used the fifth probe to monitor my cpu by inserting the temperature probe between the fins of the heat sink. The only problem with doing this is when switching from fan to fan on the touch panel, when you get to the fifth fan, there is no fan speed indicated because no fan is hooked up. Im fine with this configuration because at least I get to use all five temperature probes; otherwise, the last probe would go to waste.

One note about using the yellow sticky tape to mount the temperature probes. The tape seems to stick well at first, but fails when the case heats up. I would recommend either buying some heat resistant tape from a manufacture like Kapton or risk having your temperature probes fall to the bottom of the case like mine did.
