Protesters rallied outside Lil’ Brian’s Produce Market on Tuesday after the owner made a Facebook post that included a joke about running over protesters.

“He posted that “all lives splatter” and put a truck on there running people over. Not only did he disrespect the black community, he disrespected every community,” protester Elijah Simmons said.

Activist Quinn Austin-Pugh said he was infuriated by this because just days ago he was in Minnesota where the very thing the image portrayed did happen.

“Two days ago I was on a bridge in Minnesota, in Minneapolis, when an 18 wheeler ran over peaceful protesters. I was there. I was on the bridge. I got firsthand footage,” Austin-Pugh said.

The owner apologized in another Facebook post saying it was a joke and that he supports peaceful protests supporting George Floyd.

“But people’s lives have been taken. People have died. People were incarcerated. How do you think that’s funny? People of been taken from their families. Children have grown up without fathers. What’s funny about that?” Simmons said.

They said this apology was not enough and more needs to be done to make this right.

“I want good dialogue, Mr. Brian. You’re going to have to apologize. You’re gonna have to stand toe to toe with the community and you’re gonna have to tell us that you appreciate our black dollars and we’re gonna have to wait to see if we are accepted,” Austin-Pugh said.

Protesters said they hope to have a meeting with the owner and police Wednesday morning.
