Fans Are Surprised JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Is Longer Than One Piece

What could be the reason behind this perception?

Fans Are Surprised JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Is Longer Than One Piece Manga

The Netflix live-action adaptation of One Piece has sparked widespread discussion, extending beyond its fanbase. A new discussion on social media is about JoJo's Bizzare Adventure's length. The manga has an impressive 131 volumes but just 957 chapters at the time of this writing, and is longer than the One Piece manga.

The manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been running for over 36 years, and it has surpassed One Piece in terms of total page count. This has surprised many fans, who are used to thinking of One Piece as one of the longest-running manga. Reportedly, the One Piece manga consists of 22,915 pages while JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has 25,142 pages.

A contributing factor to this perception could be the number of chapters. Hirohiko Araki's manga spans over 131 volumes across nine parts. However, it comprises only 957 chapters. On the other hand, One Piece has over 1,091 chapters at the time of this writing, but these are collected in 106 volumes. It is indeed true that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has fewer chapters than One Piece, but each JoJo chapter is longer. This is because the manga shifted to a monthly release schedule in Ultra Jump in 2005.

The anime adaptations also play a role in this perception. One Piece boasts over 1000 episodes in its adaptation, while JoJo's Bizarre Adventure currently has 190 episodes, which may lead anime fans to believe that One Piece is the longer series.

Additionally, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure began in January 1987 in Weekly Shonen Jump, while One Piece debuted in July 1997 in the same magazine. That's a decade of gap between the two series' debuts.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is streaming on Crunchyroll, Muse Asia, and Netflix.
