Metallothioneins (MTs) are a class of low-molecular-weight, metal-binding proteins that play important roles in metal ion metabolism, oxidative stress protection, and cell proliferation (21). The MT family is classified into four main isoforms: MT1, MT2, MT3, and MT4 (22).
