The role: Technical Program Manager, System, Google Fiber

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

As a technical program manager for Google Fiber, you will be central to the operations of the cross- functional team. On a daily basis you will be responsible for working with vendors, hardware and software engineers, network engineers, product managers, and a wide variety of internal customers. In this role it is necessary to have an ability to think critically, lead through intellect, hands-on delivery, and to partner across a wide variety of functions at Google to drive change in a complex setting. The right individual will be one with strong internal drive, a tenacious spirit, a collaborative method of working, and deep experience in delivering complex systems on time.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Manage each major and minor platform releases. This includes working with product management and engineering on feature lists and schedules, working with release management and engineering management on release schedules, working with QA on manual and regression testing planning and status all to ensure production and release dates are achieved.
  • Define the schedule, planning and ordering necessary component materials to ensure development and production schedule.
  • Create and document new internal processes, and identify new and available tools that would be useful to help scale the internal operations of the platform.
  • Develop and execute plans under a set of implementation and delivery time constraints, optimizing for a complex blend of product cost, service opportunity cost, and ongoing support costs.
  • Facilitate broad collaboration with clear high communications and documentation

Minimum qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical field. In lieu of degree, 4 years of relevant experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years experience in managing highly-complex, technically-challenging projects.
  • Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills. Deadline and detail-oriented.
  • Self-starter with ability to conceive of and accept responsibility for projects and see them through to completion, must be able to to work as individual contributor and to contribute as part of a larger team.
  • Experience with Agile Development Methodology, project management, embedded software and real-time Systems, hardware design and/or optical network experience.
  • Familiar with Linux.
