Hangout on Air: Why I love working at Google Boulder

Each of our offices seek to reflect their environment -- in Boulder’s case, the office shares a love of outdoors (including a rock-climbing wall). Watch this Hangout on Air about why two of Boulder’s engineers chose Google, and why they love to come to work on Monday.

Inside Google Boulder

Living and working in Boulder means never being more than a few minutes away from some of the best hiking, cycling and climbing on the continent. If spending time outdoors is important to you, there really aren’t many better places to be than Boulder. With more than 300 days of sun a year, it’s not uncommon for Boulder Googlers to slip out of the office for a workout in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

This is a great place to work out your brain, too. Boulder Googlers work on exciting, relevant and high-impact projects. Engineering not your bag? No worries - we’ve got a healthy team of sales, marketing, quality assurance and operations Googlers here, too.

We maintain a close relationship with the University of Colorado, whose main campus is only about a mile from our brand-new office. The Boulder area has had the highest concentration of software engineers in the US. The Boulder area ranks #1 in the nation for scientists and engineers as a percent of the workforce (National Science Board, 2008). The University of Colorado at Boulder is home to four Nobel laureates, and Boulder has been named the #1 Most Educated Metro Area by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics in October 2011. In Boulder’s dozens of unique bars, restaurants and coffee houses, you never know what you’ll end up discussing - or who you’ll end up discussing it with.

“No one sits behind a closed door,” says Scott Green, our engineering site director. “We can work from anywhere in the building: the deck with a view of the mountains, the massage chair in the library, or the gallery overlooking the climbing wall. My favorite thing about the Boulder office is the people. Folks here really care about their projects.”
